Is your school already on the Net?
How schools get onto the Internet

Swisscom has concluded a framework agreement with every canton for the creation of a schools' network. Under the terms of the agreement, schools can submit sponsorship applications for free Internet access from Swisscom to the relevant cantonal authorities (sponsorship application forms can be requested from the relevant cantonal coordination unit).

1. Application submitted to canton
The school completes the sponsorship application and submits it to the cantonal coordination unit.

2. Review and forwarding by the canton
The canton reviews all applications and passes them on to Swisscom.

3. Technical review by Swisscom
Swisscom reviews the feasibility and allocates the appropriate bandwidth to the school depending on its size.

4. Installation
A local electrical engineer is assigned to install the hardware at the school. The necessary adjustments are carried out on the Swisscom network.

5. Network configuration
The school configures its network and the connected computers as specified by Swisscom.

6. Activation of access
Once all installations at the school and at Swisscom have been carried out and reviewed, access is activated.
