Swisscom assumes social responsibility

As a true Swiss company Swisscom assumes responsibility towards its homeland and aims to set an example to other companies. For this reason it is committed to our country's most important resource - education - and offers every school in Switzerland free Internet access.

Working with business and the federal government towards a common goal

Together with other partners from the business sector and the government project «Public Private Partnership - Schule im Netz» (PPP-SiN),  Swisscom is aiming in the medium term to equip all Swiss schools with state-of-the-art infrastructure and educational tools.

What is Swisscom offering?

Swisscom is offering the cantons and the Swiss Federation of Private Schools (SFPS) a free schools' network that links all the local networks (LANs, Local Area Networks) of individual schools to form a single communications infrastructure. In concrete terms this means that schools that have already installed a LAN receive Internet access with generous bandwidth appropriate to the number of PCs at the school, and are connected to the cantonal schools' network.

Most cantons have two educational networks, one which covers primary and secondary level I and the other secondary level II. This allows the cantons to adapt the networks to the security requirements independently of one another.

Swisscom is very proud of the success of its «Internet for Schools» initiative. Framework agreements have been concluded with all cantons and a schools' network has been put into operation.
