Swisscom Mobile started up the HSDPA turbo net in February 2006. The aim was to cover the cities of Berne, Geneva and Zurich by the middle of the year and to cover 40% of the population by the end of 2006. Swisscom Mobile has succeeded in reaching this ambitious goal. Along with Berne, Geneva and Zurich, HSDPA is now accessible in Basel, Davos, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, St Gallen, St Moritz and Zug.

HSDPA enables a download speed of 1.8 Mbps, which is comparable to an ADSL connection. Swisscom Mobile is planning to increase the speed of mobile data transmission via HSDPA significantly.

The high-speed network can be used with Mobile Unlimited. Directly integrated into an Unlimited laptop or using an Unlimited PC Card 5 in 1, Mobile Unlimited brings together all mobile data technologies like HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS.  The card automatically searches for the fastest available network at any given time and switches seamlessly between the five technologies. Swisscom Mobile now has more than 40,000 Mobile Unlimited customers.

First HSDPA-enabled mobile phone

The first HSDPA-enabled mobile phone, the Motorola RAZR V3xx, is now available from Swisscom Mobile. The Vodafone live! mobile phone supports video telephony and mobile TV. Video clips, ringtones, games and other multimedia content can be downloaded four times as quickly, thanks to HSDPA. The new Motorola mobile is also equipped with Bluetooth, an MP3 player and a 1.3 megapixel camera. It costs CHF 99 (for 24 months) with a NATEL® swiss liberty subscription, or without a subscription, CHF 599.
