Swisscom has signed a contract with The Phone House SA to take over its branch network. The formal transfer will take place on 1 May 2008. Swisscom will take over all points of sale, the head office and the majority of employees from The Phone House Switzerland. This will result in a significant expansion of Swisscom's distribution network, thereby allowing the company to continue to improve its customer service. The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the purchase price.
Swisscom has been constantly expanding its presence for decades in order to get closer to its customers. The company currently operates 110 shops across Switzerland, 11 of which are located in Globus branches. More and more customers visit Swisscom Shops and Swisscom has expanded its advice services considerably, which requires a higher density of shops. This means that the takeover of the branch network of The Phone House fits well into Swisscom's strategy and will allow the company to expand its distribution network rapidly. Alongside its own sales and advice channels, Swisscom will continue to value its working relationships with independent trading partners.
The 62 branches of The Phone House Switzerland will be transformed into Swisscom shops in stages from 1 May 2008 onwards and will exclusively sell products from the Swisscom range. Detailed site analysis will be carried out to determine which branches are no longer required because of local circumstances and where we can benefit from synergies in the administrative sector. Swisscom envisages consolidation in a limited number of locations and sales support functions. The company therefore envisages a relatively small number of job reductions, which will be absorbed as far as possible by natural wastage and reducing external capacities.
