Swisscom is by far the most important provider of telecoms and IT services in all key business segments in Switzerland. Swisscom's main competitors include Cablecom, Orange and Sunrise: nationally active companies that offer a full range of telecoms services for residential and business customers.

Following a reduction in Swisscom's share of the fixed network telephony and mobile communications markets due to the aggressive entry of competitors, these shares have now stabilised at roughly two-thirds of total market volume. In recent years Swisscom has continually gained ground in the field of high-speed Internet access, and now occupies first place in this market segment as well.
