We want to focus on these initiatives in 2011.
Risk management
Our aim for 2011 is to develop and launch a risk management system, which will form the foundation for meeting the requirements of the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative). Our suppliers are assessed on the basis of our product group structure.
GeSI Membership
GeSi, the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (www.gesi.org), is dedicated to improving conditions at suppliers to companies in the information and communications industry. GeSI was founded in 2001 and promotes cooperation and open dialogue. It informs the public about the voluntary campaigns of its members to increase sustainability and promotes technologies that foster sustainable development. The basic idea of GeSi is that joint efforts are required to achieve responsible business success.
Deployment of E-TASC
Electronics - Tool for Accountable Supply Chains (E-TASC) is a Web-based application, which records information provided by suppliers on the subject of sustainability. The range of topics includes environmental protection, human rights, fair working conditions and occupational and health protection. The system includes information provided by the suppliers themselves as well as results of audits, supplier workshops and NGO reports. E-TASC was initiated by GeSI at the end of 2007 and currently has 750 members.
Instruction and training
We support the development of expertise in sustainability even within our own organisation. We regularly train our purchasers - as the interface to our suppliers - and provide them with further awareness-raising measures. All other Swisscom employees benefit from a range of courses that give them insights into this multifaceted subject.
CO2 footprint in the supply chain
The project to consolidate the Swisscom warehouse locations, which was initiated in 2009, has enabled us to save a total of 200,000 kilometres or 32 tonnes of CO2 to date. Our goal for 2011 is to expand our conceptual work with our suppliers and logistics partners with the objective of further reducing CO2 emissions.
