Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX)
A company’s phone switchboard is the nerve centre of its voice communications. It acts as the interface between the public fixed network and the internal company network, ensuring that both external and internal calls are put through to the right person quickly and reliably.
The scope, capacity and functionality of a PABX solution can be aligned with the company’s needs. Depending on the system, anything between and handful and several thousand lines may be connected. As well as connecting calls, the PABX can handle other tasks such as:
- call forwarding
- evaluation of communication costs
- call centre functions
- computer telephony integration (CTI)
- alarm broadcasting or integration of door intercoms
A PABX can also be operated as a voice over IP system, in which case voice communications are handled by the company’s computer network. PABXs also offer flexibility, allowing for system expansion at any time.
